Savvy Offroad 7075 Aluminum Short-Arm Control Arms | 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ Unlimited
The Savvy Offroad 7075 Aluminum Short-Arm Control Arms are engineered specifically for the short-arm suspension geometry of the 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ and LJ Unlimited. Built from the same 7075 aluminum used in Savvy's King of the Hammers championship-winning EMC race cars nearly double the yield strength of 6061 aluminum and superior to steel in impact resistance and fatigue paired with RockJock "Narrow" Housing Johnny Joints at the axle side and RK Adventure Series joints at the frame side, double-adjustable with built-in wrench flats, and upgraded to 75° of misalignment from the standard 60°. The strongest, most capable short-arm control arms available for the TJ/LJ platform. Bolt-on factory replacement. Lifetime warranty on link material. Made in the USA.
The Savvy 7075 Aluminum Control Arms, engineered for maximum strength, smoother ride quality, better articulation, and precise suspension adjustability. Built for Jeep owners who want serious off-road durability without sacrificing on-road comfort, these Jeep TJ/LJ control arms are race-tested, trail-proven, and designed to perform in demanding conditions.
Born From Racing, Not Just Trail Pics
A lot of companies post trail pics. Not many can post finish line pics. Savvy can.
When we say these control arms were born from racing, we mean it literally. Savvy has stacked more finishes, wins, and championships than any other brand in the armor game proven at the races where equipment either holds or fails in front of everyone watching:
- King of the Hammers: The most demanding off-road race on earth. The same 7075 aluminum in these control arms is the material running in the EMC championship-winning race cars. If it holds up there, it holds up everywhere you will ever wheel your TJ or LJ.
- Baja: High-speed desert racing where suspension components take sustained vibration, heat, and repeated impact over hundreds of miles. The race that separates real engineering from spec sheet marketing.
If it holds up there, the trails we all wheel on feel easy.
We don't build once and walk away. We keep improving because the trails, the speeds, and the drivers keep pushing the limits. Every refinement in the Legacy line came from breaking something, analyzing why, and building the next version better. That cycle does not stop because the racing does not stop.
Built light. Built strong. Built with purpose. Champions run Savvy and that list is long.
7075 Aluminum, Why the Alloy Matters Even on a Short-Arm Build
Some builders assume that alloy selection matters more on long-arm builds because the arms are longer and the loads are higher. The reality is different. On a short-arm TJ or LJ running 35–40 inch tires on rocky terrain, the lower control arms take concentrated impact loads from rock contact that are independent of arm length. A 6061 arm and a 7075 arm at the same length and diameter respond differently to that impact loading and the difference is nearly double the yield strength.
7075 aluminum: yield strength approximately 73,000 psi.
6061 aluminum: yield strength approximately 40,000 psi. Nearly half of 7075.
Mild steel (A36): yield strength approximately 36,000 psi. Less than half of 7075.
On a short-arm TJ running 37s on rocky trail, the lower control arm that makes rock contact is the one that needs 7075 strength regardless of whether the system is short-arm or long-arm. The alloy argument does not change with arm length. The load environment does not care whether the geometry is short or long. 7075 is the right material for control arms that take hits, period.
The Joint Selection, Two Different Joints for Two Different Load Environments
The Savvy 7075 short-arm TJ/LJ control arms use different joint types at the axle side and frame side of each arm the same deliberate engineering choice made across the entire Savvy 7075 control arm line.
RockJock "Narrow" Housing Johnny Joint, Axle Side: Maximum articulation capacity for the position that cycles constantly through full suspension travel. Smooth steel ball in proprietary urethane housing. Quiet, shock-dampening articulation without deflection. Upgraded to 75° misalignment from the standard 60° 15 more degrees of articulation capacity that matters on a short-arm TJ as much as on any other configuration. The 1.25" shank on the lower arms provides maximum strength at the joint-to-arm connection point.
RK Adventure Series Joint, Frame Side: NVH management for the frame-side position. Reduces noise, vibration, and harshness transmission into the frame and cabin. On a TJ or LJ used for daily driving alongside trail use which describes the majority of short-arm builds the frame-side joint's contribution to on-road comfort matters as much as the axle-side joint's contribution to articulation. The correct joint for the position.
Key Features
- Short-Arm Geometry, Configurations: Arm length and geometry optimized for short-arm TJ/LJ suspension setups. Pairs directly with the Savvy short-arm lift kit system and Rock Krawler Triple-rate coil springs. Correct geometry for the short-arm lift range without the conversion complexity of a long-arm system.
- 7075 Aluminum, Nearly Double the Yield Strength of 6061: 73,000 psi yield strength versus 6061 at 40,000 psi and mild steel at 36,000 psi. The alloy argument does not change with arm length 7075 is the correct material for control arms that take rock contact under load. Same material used in Savvy's KOH championship EMC race car suspension. 1.75" solid round bar.
- Stronger Than Steel at Less Weight: 7075 aluminum outperforms mild steel in yield strength and fatigue resistance while weighing significantly less. Genuinely both stronger and lighter than the steel DOM tube short-arm alternatives.
- RockJock "Narrow" Housing Johnny Joint, Axle Side: Maximum articulation, smooth urethane housing, quiet operation, upgraded to 75° misalignment. 1.25" shank on lower arms for maximum connection strength.
- RK Adventure Series Joint, Frame Side: NVH reduction and improved ride quality. The correct joint for the frame-side load environment on a TJ or LJ used for both trail and daily driving.
- 75° Maximum Misalignment, Up from 60°: 15 additional degrees of articulation across all joint assemblies on a short-arm build that still demands full suspension travel capability.
- Double Adjustable, Left/Right Hand Threads with Wrench Flats: Correct pinion angle and caster for your specific lift height from inside the vehicle. Particularly important in the 2–5" lift range where precise geometry correction makes a measurable difference in handling and driveshaft vibration.
- Lower Control Arms, 1.25" Shank Joint & 1.75" Round Bar: Sized for the loads the lower arm position sees on a TJ or LJ running serious tires on rocky terrain.
- Upper Control Arms, Steel Fork Axle End: Heavy-duty steel fork at the axle end integrates with the factory-installed bushing for a seamless factory- quality fit.
- Bolt-On Factory Replacement: Direct replacement using factory mounting points. No cutting, no welding, no frame or axle modifications.
- Lifetime Warranty on Link Material: Savvy's lifetime warranty on the 7075 aluminum tube. The confidence that comes from knowing the alloy is correct for the application.
- Made in the USA: Precision-engineered and manufactured in America.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why 7075 aluminum on a short-arm build?
Because the alloy argument does not change with arm length. On a TJ or LJ running 35–40 inch tires on rocky terrain, the lower control arms take concentrated impact loads from rock contact regardless of whether the system is short-arm or long-arm. 7075 at approximately 73,000 psi yield strength handles those impacts 6061 at approximately 40,000 psi and mild steel at approximately 36,000 psi handle them less well. The correct material for control arms that take hits is 7075, period.
Does this fit both the TJ and the LJ Unlimited?
Yes. The SD0116 short-arm control arms fit all 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ models and the 2004–2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ Unlimited.
Why are there two different joint types?
The axle side needs maximum articulation capacity that is the RockJock Narrow Housing Johnny Joint. The frame side needs NVH management alongside durability that is the RK Adventure Series joint. Using the same joint at both ends would trade unnecessary cabin noise for articulation the frame side does not need.
What is the warranty?
Lifetime warranty on the link material the 7075 aluminum tube itself. Grade 8 hardware is included in the kit at no additional charge.
Are these a direct bolt-on replacement?
Yes. Direct bolt-on using factory mounting points on both the frame and axle. No cutting, no welding, no modifications required for short-arm installation.
