Product Description
Savvy Offroad Legacy Front Bumper Hoop | 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ Unlimited
The Savvy Offroad Legacy Front Hoop completes the Savvy Legacy TJ/LJ front bumper system adding grille protection, winch protection, auxiliary lighting protection, and an optimized approach angle to the Legacy bumper skin and winch plate underneath it. Built from 1.75" DOM tubing with 1/4" CNC laser-cut base plates, designed using updated CAD models from Jeep, and CNC laser-cut and bent for exact TJ/LJ fitment. Made in the USA.
This is not a cosmetic hoop. The geometry was engineered to contribute a meaningful approach angle improvement while the DOM tubing structure takes real hits from rocks, brush, and trail debris that would otherwise reach your grille, radiator, winch rope, and any auxiliary lighting you have invested in. If you wheel hard enough to need a Legacy bumper, you wheel hard enough to need this hoop.
Born From Racing, Not Just Trail Pics
A lot of companies post trail pics. Not many can post finish line pics. Savvy can.
When we say this system was born from racing, we mean it literally. Savvy has stacked more finishes, wins, and championships than any other brand in the armor game proven at the races where equipment either holds or fails in front of everyone watching:
- King of the Hammers: The most demanding off-road race on earth. If your armor survives here, it survives everything.
- Baja: High-speed desert racing where vibration, heat, and repeated impact over hundreds of miles separate real engineering from spec sheet marketing.
If it holds up there, the trails we all wheel on feel easy.
We don't build once and walk away. We keep improving because the trails, the speeds, and the drivers keep pushing the limits. Every refinement in the Legacy line came from breaking something, analyzing why, and building the next version better. That cycle does not stop because the racing does not stop.
Built light. Built strong. Built with purpose. Champions run Savvy and that list is long.
What the Hoop Actually Does
Three things, each of which matters on a TJ or LJ that gets wheeled seriously.
Grille and radiator protection: On a technical trail approach, the first thing to make contact with brush, branches, and low-hanging rock faces is whatever is at the highest point of your front-end profile. Without a hoop, that is your grille and radiator. With the Legacy hoop, it is a 1.75" DOM steel tube that is designed to deflect those impacts rather than transfer them to expensive cooling system components.
Winch protection: A winch mounted to the Legacy winch plate (SD0096) sits at the center of your front bumper exactly where trail debris, rocks, and obstacles want to go. The hoop creates a protective barrier that absorbs and deflects contact that would otherwise damage your winch housing, motor, or control unit. Winches are not cheap to replace. The hoop is significantly cheaper than a winch repair.
Lighting protection: If you have invested in quality off-road auxiliary lighting mounted to your front bumper Rigid, Baja Designs, or any other brand those lights live directly behind the hoop when it is installed. Trail debris that clears the bumper skin level hits the hoop before it reaches your lighting investment. This is the detail your lighting brand's marketing never mentions but your wallet will appreciate on the first run where something would have made contact.
Key Features
- 1.75" DOM Tubing Construction: DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) tubing is the same construction used in quality off-road roll cages and suspension components chosen for its consistent wall thickness, clean weld surface, and structural performance under impact. At 1.75" diameter, the Legacy hoop is robust enough to take real hits without deforming and redirect them away from the components it is protecting.
- 1/4" CNC Laser-Cut Base Plates: The hoop mounts to the bumper system through 1/4" thick CNC laser-cut steel base plates significantly thicker than the mounting hardware on most competitor hoop designs. This is the connection point that takes the load when the hoop makes contact with an obstacle, and 1/4" thickness at that connection point is not an over-engineering choice it is the right spec for a hoop that is designed to actually do its job.
- Optimized Approach Angle: The hoop geometry was engineered to improve approach angle rather than compromise it. Most hoops add bulk at the top of the bumper profile and actually reduce approach angle slightly by raising the first contact point. The Legacy hoop geometry is designed to push that contact point back and up contributing to approach performance rather than detracting from it.
- Grille, Winch & Lighting Protection: Three investments protected by one component. Your grille and radiator from trail debris. Your winch housing and electronics from rock and brush contact. Your auxiliary lighting from the same impacts that the bumper skin below deflects at a lower level.
- CNC Laser-Cut & CNC-Bent for Exact Fitment: Designed using updated CAD models sourced directly from Jeep for the 1997–2006 TJ and 2004–2006 LJ Unlimited. Every dimension is CNC-formed for exact fitment with the Legacy bumper skin and winch plate beneath it.
- Made in the USA: Designed and manufactured in America to the same standard as every other component in the Savvy Legacy TJ/LJ bumper system.

The Complete Savvy Legacy TJ/LJ Front Bumper System
The Savvy Legacy TJ/LJ front bumper is a three-component modular system. Each piece serves a specific function and is available separately so you build the configuration your specific use case requires.
Front Bumper Skin (SD0087): The core of the system. The aluminum outer skin that bolts to factory TJ/LJ mounting points, delivers the lowest-profile no-frame-chop geometry available for the platform, and is the component you replace if trail damage occurs. Required for all configurations.
Front Bumper Winch Plate (SD0096): Required if you plan to run a winch. Provides structural winch mounting and Factor 55 fairlead compatibility. Not needed if you are not running a winch.
Front Hoop (this listing): Adds grille, winch, and lighting protection plus approach angle optimization. Recommended for any build that runs a winch or auxiliary lighting, or any build that wheels terrain where front-end debris contact is a regular occurrence.
All three components ship raw aluminum or raw steel and can be finished together before installation for a consistent look, or run natural for a raw off-road aesthetic.
Best For
- 1997–2006 Jeep TJ and LJ Unlimited owners who are building the complete Savvy Legacy front bumper system and want grille and lighting protection from the hoop
- Builds running a winch who want the hoop to protect the winch housing and electronics from trail contact
- Builds running auxiliary lighting who want the hoop as a protective barrier between trail debris and their lighting investment
- Rock crawlers where approach angle optimization and front-end protection on technical terrain both matter
- TJ and LJ owners completing an existing Legacy skin and winch plate setup with the hoop to finish the full system
Why Choose the Savvy Legacy Front Bumper Hoop?
Many Jeep TJ/LJ bumper hoops are added mainly for appearance, but the Savvy Legacy front hoop is designed to add real protection where it matters. It helps protect the grille, winch, and front lighting while still maintaining the clearance and approach angle expected from a serious off-road bumper system.
For Jeep owners looking for a Jeep TJ front bumper hoop or Jeep LJ grille protection hoop that complements the Savvy Legacy bumper, this design offers a strong combination of clean fitment, front-end protection, off-road clearance, and USA-made construction. It is a smart upgrade for trail rigs, crawlers, and well-built TJ/LJ projects that need both function and finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this hoop work without the Legacy bumper skin?
No. The Legacy front hoop is designed specifically to work with the Savvy Legacy TJ/LJ Front Bumper Skin (SD0087) and integrates with the Winch Plate (SD0096) when that component is also installed. It is not designed to work with other manufacturer's bumpers or as a standalone component.
Do I need both the skin and the winch plate to use this hoop?
You need the skin (SD0087) as the base for the system. The winch plate (SD0096) is only required if you plan to run a winch. The hoop can be installed with the skin alone if you are not running a winch and want grille and lighting protection without the winch plate.
Does this hoop work with the 2-door TJ and the LJ Unlimited?
Yes. The Legacy front hoop fits all 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ models and the 2004–2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ Unlimited in conjunction with the Legacy bumper skin.
Why DOM tubing instead of standard ERW tubing?
DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) tubing has a more consistent wall thickness and a cleaner, denser surface than standard ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) tubing. It welds more cleanly, performs more predictably under impact, and is the tubing specification used in quality roll cage and suspension construction for exactly these reasons. The Legacy hoop uses DOM because it is the right spec for a component that takes real trail hits.
What is the complete Savvy Legacy TJ/LJ front bumper system?
The complete system is three components: the Front Bumper Skin (SD0087), the Front Bumper Winch Plate (SD0096, required for winch use), and this Front Hoop. All three are available separately so you build the configuration your build requires. If you are not running a winch, the skin plus hoop is your complete setup. If you are running a winch, all three components together form the full system.
What finish does it ship in?
Raw steel. Powder coat or paint to your preferred color or leave natural. If you are finishing the complete system, finishing all three components together before installation gives the most consistent result.
