Savvy Offroad Legacy 6061 Aluminum Rear Bumper | 2018–2026 Jeep Wrangler JL / JLU

Upgrade your 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL or JLU with the Savvy Legacy 6061 Aluminum Rear Bumper, engineered for maximum rear clearance, lightweight strength, and modular trail-ready durability. Built for Jeep owners who want serious off-road capability without unnecessary rear weight, this Jeep JL/JLU rear bumper delivers a tight high-clearance fit, improved departure angle, and a clean aggressive rear profile.

Constructed from 3/16-inch CNC laser-cut 6061 aluminum, this high-clearance rear bumper for Jeep JL and JLU weighs only 10 lbs, helping reduce rear-end weight while still providing the strength needed for real off-road use. The lightweight design helps improve handling and overall vehicle efficiency compared to heavier steel rear bumpers, while still maintaining strong rear protection where it matters.

What sets the Savvy Legacy rear bumper apart is its modular replaceable rear skin design. If the outer skin takes damage on the trail, it can be replaced without replacing the full bumper assembly. That means easier repairs, lower long-term replacement cost, and better serviceability than many traditional welded rear bumpers.

The Legacy rear bumper is the right choice for the JL or JLU builder who wants the best aluminum available on their bumper, stronger alloy, more impact resistance, lighter weight combined with geometry that delivers more departure clearance than any bolt-on design can offer.

Legacy vs. Krawler Lite, The Material Difference That Defines Two Different Bumpers

Both bumpers are made from aluminum. That is where the similarity in material ends.

The Krawler Lite uses 5052 aluminum: a marine-grade alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and good formability. For Jeep owners looking for a lightweight aluminum rear bumper for Jeep JL or JLU, this design combines high-clearance fitment, modular repairability, integrated recovery points, and customizable lighting options in one clean package. Whether your Jeep is a weekend trail rig, overland build, or dedicated crawler, this bumper is built to perform without the weight penalty of traditional steel bumpers

The Legacy uses 6061 aluminum: a heat-treated, precipitation-hardened structural alloy that is a fundamentally different material. 6061 has a tensile strength of approximately 45,000 psi versus 5052's 33,000 psi. Its yield strength is roughly double that of 5052. It is harder, more impact resistant, and better suited to taking repeated hard hits from rocks and ledges without deforming. This is the alloy used in aerospace structural components, automotive roll cages, and structural engineering applications where impact resistance is the primary design criterion.

On a rear bumper that is going to make direct contact with obstacles on technical terrain, that material difference is not a spec sheet detail. It is the difference between a skin that dents on a hard hit and one that resists deformation under the same impact. The Legacy bumper's replaceable skin is still there as a cost-effective repair solution but the 6061 alloy means the skin needs to be replaced less often because it handles more before it fails.

  • Want the strongest aluminum with maximum impact resistance and maximum departure clearance, and are ready for a frame-mounted install: Legacy
  • Want excellent aluminum performance in a no-modification bolt-on install that retains factory hitch capability: Krawler Lite

Key Features

·         6061 Aluminum, The Strongest Alloy in Savvy's Bumper Lineup: 6061is a heat-treated, precipitation-hardened structural aluminum alloy with a tensile strength approximately 35% higher than the 5052 aluminum used in the Krawler Lite and a yield strength nearly double that of 5052. It is harder, more impact resistant, and better suited to repeated direct contact with rocks and obstacles without deforming. This is the alloy used in aerospace structural components and automotive roll cage applications. At 3/16" thickness and 10 lbs total weight, the Legacy rear bumper delivers the highest strength-per-pound of any aluminum rear bumper available for the JL and JLU platform

  • Maximum Departure Clearance: The rear frame trimming required is the trade-off that unlocks the clearance geometry and, on a JL, or JLU where departure angle is a priority, it is the right trade-off to make. Provides maximum departure angle, ensuring your Jeep clears obstacles effortlessly.
  • Only 10 lbs, 6061 Aluminum Construction: 3/16" 6061 aluminum is the same aerospace and structural alloy used throughout the Legacy bumper line chosen for its strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and machinability. Less rear weight means better handling, less rear sag on lifted builds, and more performance on every trail.
  • Modular Replaceable Rear Skin: The outer aluminum skin is a separate modular component. Take a hard hit on the trail? Replace just the skin the frame mounts and D-ring mounts stay on the Jeep. Faster fix, lower cost, less downtime.
  • Integrated D-Ring Recovery Mounts: 3/4" thick CNC laser-cut steel D-ring shackle mounts built into the bumper structure for real winch recoveries. Low-profile design that does not add bulk or snag points to the bumper profile.
  • Rear Frame Trimming Required: The extreme clearance geometry of the Legacy rear bumper requires minimal trimming of the rear frame for proper installation. This is a straightforward modification covered fully in the installation instructions. It is the modification that unlocks the clearance geometry and is the key difference between this and a bolt-on design.
  • Ships Raw Aluminum: Powder coat or paint to match your build. 6061 aluminum can also be left raw it does not rust and holds up well unfinished.
  • Made in the USA: Precision CNC laser-cut and bent from updated Jeep JL and JLU CAD models for exact fitment on all 2018–2026 JL 2-door and JLU 4-door models.

  • Builders upgrading from the Krawler Lite who have decided they want even more clearance and are willing to make the frame trim to get it
  • 2018–2026 Jeep JL and JLU builders who want a stronger race proven bumper skin

Why Choose the Savvy Legacy 6061 Aluminum Rear Bumper?

Many Jeep JL/JLU rear bumpers add unnecessary bulk and weight or make trail damage expensive to fix. The Savvy Legacy rear bumper is designed to deliver tight fitment, high clearance, lightweight construction, integrated recovery capability, and modular repairability in one clean package.

For Jeep owners looking for the strongest aluminum Jeep JL rear bumper or Jeep JLU rear bumper that improves departure angle, reduces rear weight, and still offers real recovery functionality, this design provides a strong balance of clearance, performance, serviceability, and clean styling. It is an ideal upgrade for trail rigs, crawlers, and well-built daily-driven Jeeps alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the Krawler Lite bolt-on rear bumper?
Two things separate the Legacy from the Krawler Lite is material and clerance. On material: the Legacy uses 6061 aluminum, a heat-treated structural alloy with approximately 35% higher tensile strength and nearly double the yield strength of the 5052 aluminum used in the Krawler Lite. The Legacy skin is harder, more impact resistant, and holds up better under repeated direct rock contact. On clearance: the Legacy requires minimal rear frame trimming, and achieves a tighter lower departure geometry than the bolt-on design allows. The Krawler Lite is bolt-on, no modification required, retains the factory JL receiver hitch, and uses 5052 aluminum excellent performance for its design intent. The Legacy is the stronger material, more clearance option. The Krawler Lite is the no-modification, hitch-compatible, trail-proven bolt-on option. Choose based on which trade-offs match your build.

Does this fit both the 2-door JL and 4-door JLU?
Yes. The Legacy 6061 aluminum rear bumper fits all 2018–2026 Jeep Wrangler JL 2-door and JLU 4-door models.

Does this work with my factory JL receiver hitch?
No. The frame-mounted geometry of the Legacy rear bumper does not retain the factory JL receiver hitch. If factory hitch compatibility is required for your build, see the Savvy Krawler Lite bolt-on rear bumper for the JL/JLU, which is specifically designed to work with the stock receiver hitch.

What frame trimming is required?
Minimal trimming of the rear frame is required for proper fitment and to achieve the full clearance geometry. Full installation instructions are included with the bumper. This modification is straightforward and is covered step by step in the included guide.

Can I replace just the skin if it gets damaged on the trail?
Yes. The rear aluminum skin is a modular component that replaces independently. Order a replacement skin, swap it out — the frame mounts and D-ring recovery points stay on the Jeep throughout the process.

What lighting does this bumper accept?
The Legacy rear bumper is designed for Rigid SR-L Series pod lights. Additional adapter brackets for flush integration are available separately. Lights are sold separately.

What finish does it ship in?
Raw aluminum. Powder coat or paint to your preferred color, or leave natural — 6061 aluminum does not rust in raw condition.
